Mary
And Martha
By
The Twelve Apostles
The Word Of Life Is Most
Important
Now, Jesus, Peter,
James and John went out to Bethany where Lazarus lived.
And Mary sat at Jesus' feet and heard Him speak the words of life while Martha
served.
And Martha called, but Mary would not leave the Lord to help her serve. And
Martha said to Jesus, “Do you not care that Mary makes me bear the burdens of
the serving all the day? I beg that you will bid her help.”
And Jesus said, “You are too anxious, Martha, for your guests; you need not
trouble so about the things of life. You grow a-weary by your care
for little things and slight the one thing needed most of all. Your
sister here has chosen far the better part, a part that none can take away.”
Explanations
The case of Mary and Martha teaches the children of God the following:
One, Jesus Christ has rites of holiness.
Two, that day was not the first day Jesus Christ came to their house.
Three, there is a difference between a visitor and a family friend. Jesus Christ was already their family friend. He was no longer a visitor to the family. When a family friend comes, if you like, you cook food for the person or not. Where there is no food, you have to discuss important matters with the person and he goes home.
Martha wanted to give food to Jesus Christ. But Mary was more interested in hearing the words of life and wisdom, which Jesus Christ was saying. The two intentions are good and necessary, but the word of God is more important than the ordinary food. What Jesus Christ was teaching the people of God by this incident is this: your every day efforts, strivings and engagements are good and necessary. But do not allow them to prevent you from hearing the word of God, from standing in the presence of God by attending prayers and worship.
In these present and modern generations, the temple of God at DivineBase Ministry is usually empty, desolate and abandoned by the children of God, religious leaders and ministers of God. This is because people usually spend the time of God, the time they should be in the presence of God, in doing business, works and other worldly activities.
On that day, Jesus Christ did not come to their house to eat, but to teach something important. They knew that Jesus Christ comes with various teachings, which are meaningful and useful. They supposed to hear Him, ask Him questions, in order to get the teachings from Him, for themselves to grow in spirit. They were among the disciples, and so that they shall join in teaching others.
Another point is this. The incident teaches the value of the word of God and the importance of the FirstSon of God. All the people who follow Jesus Christ, shall be going into the spirit and be understanding the things of spirit.
On some other day, it becomes very necessary to leave the teaching and hearing of the word of God, for a while, for the people of God to find and eat food, so that they shall not die, faint or collapse while doing the work of God. Wisdom consists in knowing where to stop in doing the will of God.
